Geri's Notes on Houston
Geri's journey to the Houston Quilt Market charged her with excitement and plans for a new store look! Here are her notes:

"Houston Quilt Market was a WOW! On the inside track is color: brights in solids, hand dyes and ombre* dyes. The magic comes in how to blend them.

Stitchery was everywhere! Come in to see Kathy Schmitz's new patterns and the latest in a beautiful new double-strand floss we are carrying, imported from Japan.

And do not forget Civil War! It was bigger than it has been for a long time. Our selection of prints & patterns grows daily, so come enjoy the lovely selections.

Wool Felt Project
Plus wool was huge at the market! We have the most beautiful hand dyed wools in the market!"

Come see our new looks, colors and textures!

*ombre dyeing- the technique of dyeing from light to dark in a blended flow.

Holiday Block and Cookie Exchange
(It is not too late to join!)
Through the Woods
A hit last year, so we are doing our Holiday Block and Cookie Exchange again and there is still time for you to join in the fun.

From our selected holiday fabrics, we encouraged all of our friends to make 6 identical blocks, and bring 5 of them to exchange. Last year we were "awed" with the gorgeous variety of beautifully made blocks.
In addition, we exchange cookies, too! Every one goes home with 5 different blocks to complete a table runner, wall hanging, or to enhance a quilt, and 3 dozen cookies!
See you December 12 at 11:00 AM!

Book Review by Janet O.

Link to the 30's

Making The Quilts We Didn't Inherit
by Kay Connors & Karen Earlywine

I wanted to find a "new" reproduction pattern and this Book: Making The Quilts We Didn't Inheritbook is perfect and usable for all skill levels. The Chain Link quilt in the book is shown in 30's fabrics, but I stitched mine in Civil War prints, still a historic throw back. As the authors say, this "interlocking" block pattern is deceptively easy. It was fun to put together and watch the chain develop. I'd never made a prairie point border so I enjoyed learning a new skill/technique.

This book includes 9 vintage favorite patterns and is priced at $26.99
Did you know...?
a product exists that traps loose dyes in your wash water, safeguarding your fabrics and quilts from color bleeds?

Shout (TM) Color Catcher Sheets do the trick. One of our Pine Cones was overheard lamenting that her washer was lined with red dye after pre-washing red flannels. Our other Pine Cones piped up about this product. We've used this product and we like it. The sheets actually change color as they collect the dye. They can be used in the dryer, too.
Happy quilting!
